Artist:
Thomas Eakins (1844-1916) was the most uncompromising American realist of his century, trained in Paris and committed to anatomy, perspective and photographic study. His insistence on the nude in teaching cost him his post at the Pennsylvania Academy. Recognition came late and largely after his death.
