Artist:
Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) trained under Filippo Lippi and became the defining painter of Lorenzo de’ Medici’s Florence, working in a linear, melancholy, intensely graceful style. Under Savonarola’s influence his later work turned severe and religious. He died in obscurity and was rediscovered by the Pre-Raphaelites four centuries later.
