Artist:
Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) was the defining painter of Neoclassicism and later the visual chronicler of the French Revolution and Napoleon. His compositions strip away Rococo decoration in favour of clear planes, sculptural figures and moral gravity. After Napoleon’s fall he lived out his life in exile in Brussels.
