Artist
Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was the only artist to show in all eight Impressionist exhibitions and served as a mentor to younger painters including Cézanne and Gauguin. Born in the Danish West Indies, he settled in France and spent his later career painting series of the same urban view under changing conditions of light, weather and time of day. He lost part of his life’s work when Prussian soldiers occupied his home during the Franco-Prussian War.
