Artist:
Paolo Veronese (1528-1588) was, with Titian and Tintoretto, one of the three painters who defined Venetian art in the sixteenth century. He specialised in vast, crowded, sumptuously coloured feast scenes for monastery refectories, filling them with silk, architecture and incidental life. Summoned before the Inquisition over one such painting, he refused to repaint it and simply changed its title.
