Artist
Peder Severin Kroyer (1851-1909) was the central figure of the Skagen painters, the colony of Scandinavian artists who gathered at the northern tip of Denmark to work in its extraordinary light. He was trained in Copenhagen and Paris, and spent his last years losing his sight and his mental health, still painting. The blue hour at Skagen is his signature and his legacy.
