The School of Athens

Plato and Aristotle walk forward beneath a vast coffered vault, surrounded by philosophers, mathematicians and astronomers arranged across a sweep of marble steps. Raphael gave several figures the faces of his contemporaries, including Leonardo as Plato and, reportedly, himself among the crowd at the right. The architecture is grander than anything that existed in Rome at the time.
