Rembrandt van Rijn

Self-Portrait with Two Circles

US$ 786.00

Rembrandt stands with palette and brushes against a wall marked by two mysterious arcs, painted in his sixties after bankruptcy and the deaths of most of his family. The face is worked in thick, dragged, unglamorous paint; the hands are barely finished. Nobody has satisfactorily explained the circles.
