Artist:
Ford Madox Brown (1821-1893) trained in Belgium and Paris before settling in England, where he was closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelites without ever formally joining them. He worked slowly and with fierce moral seriousness, and later designed stained glass for William Morris’s firm. His Manchester murals occupied his final decade.
