Les Femmes d’Alger (The Women of Algiers)

$6,600

Description:

Les Femmes d’Alger (The Women of Algiers) is a series of 15 paintings and drawings by Pablo Picasso, created in 1954–1955 as a tribute to Eugène Delacroix’s 1834 masterpiece of the same name. Picasso reinterpreted the Orientalist theme through his Cubist style, using fragmented forms, bold colors, and dynamic compositions. The series reflects his fascination with female figures and his artistic rivalry with Henri Matisse.

One of the paintings, Version O, became one of the most expensive artworks ever sold when it fetched $179.4 million at auction in 2015. The series is considered a significant example of Picasso’s later work and his continuous artistic reinvention.
