Gopini

$5,100

Description:

“Gopini” is a famous painting by the Indian Modernist Jamini Roy that depicts a Gopini from Vrindavan in a dance pose. The main subjects in the painting by Roy, were often enclosed within decorative borders with motifs in the background. Roy used bold, sweeping brushstrokes while painting and restricted his palette to seven vibrant and earthy colors – Indian red, yellow ochre, cadmium green, vermillion, grey, blue and white. Roy’s rejection of the then modern style of painting and his foray into the realm of Bengali folk paintings marked a new beginning in the history of Indian modern art.
